About the brand

Magnepan is known for their unique planar magnetic speakers that use thin Mylar film and aluminum foil strips instead of traditional speaker cones, creating sound from both front and back of the panel for a more natural, box-less sound. Their speakers are particularly appealing for jazz and classical music listeners due to their lifelike reproduction of acoustic instruments, and they're popular among audiophiles for offering high-end performance at relatively affordable prices.

About the brand

Diptyque stands out in the hifi industry for its advanced isodynamic planar magnetic technology, delivering precise, natural sound with minimal distortion. With decades of expertise in acoustics, the brand has earned a strong reputation for crafting hand-built, high-performance speakers in France.

Our interview with the brand

What are two key technological innovations or strong opinions that differ you from other brands?

We’re about planar magnetic speakers—with actual bass. Many others of this type don't have bass. Instead of just having magnets on one plane on either side of the voice coil, we put them front and back. We’re a cross between a Magnepan and a Martin Logan insofar as this driver topology inspiration. This gives you more x-max so you can get more output, which means better bass response.

Tradeoffs: More expensive, and possibly still not as bassy as the biggest EDM speakers can pull off. But it’s magical for everything else.

About the brand

Steinway Lyngdorf is unique for its fully digital amplification technology and RoomPerfect system, which processes signals entirely in the digital domain and automatically adapts sound to any room's acoustics without requiring acoustic treatment. Their systems are built as closed ecosystems with components that must work together, featuring distinctive dipole speakers that emit sound from both front and back to mimic how Steinway pianos interact with a room.

About the brand

Linkwitz Lab is known for its open-baffle dipole speaker designs that minimize room interaction and create a more natural soundstage, with their flagship LX521.4 model using dynamic drivers and an active analog crossover system. The brand has a strong DIY focus, providing detailed plans and kits for enthusiasts to build their own systems, while emphasizing consistent directivity and a theory of stereo reproduction that avoids interfering with the ear/brain's perception of the soundstage.

Our interview with the brand

What are two key technological innovations or strong opinions that differ you from other brands?

LINKWITZ speakers take the room out of the equation. No room treatment necessary, no DSP "room correction" necessary (as demoed on AXPONA2025). This is possible because these are full range dipoles (not only open baffle speakers , which end being dipoles at around 1-2kHz) . This benign radiation pattern allows a wide "sweet area" to enjoy a believable soundstage, that can actually achieve a depth of 20ft and more. The LINKWITZ dipole bass regularly provokes jaw drops. You can feel the drum stroke in your chest. Dry, powerful and un-boomy due to its unique radiation pattern. Physics at play! This kind of top performance can only be achieved as an active setup. We optimized our fully analog signal processor to the latest phase coherent, cascaded architecture.

What's your approach to customer support?

Fortunately, since more than 12 yrs in business, we see very few issues, as everything is thoroughly tested before shipping. If any issues arise our customers email us for further procedure. Our service for turnkey systems includes set-up assistance for optimal positioning / toe in (video call)

What are your favorite tracks for showcasing the strength of your products?

Two aspects:

Demo, how authentic a spatial setting of musicians & their music can be experienced at home. This can be judged best, when you know, the situation at the recording venue:

  • Come On In My Kitchen by Carmen Gomez Inc, (Label SoundLiaison)
  • Equinox by Markus Schwartz & Lakou Brooklyn (Label Soundkeeper Recordings)‍
  • The reference recording in DSD256, done in minimal mic technique from this event is a milestone in authenticity, believability and naturalness. See this free download link.

Demo of dynamic and chest-hammering bass drums with dipole subs:

  • Liberian Girl (Michael Jackson)
  • Bass and drum Intro (Nils Lofgren)
  • Game of Love (Daft Punk)

What other products pair best with yours?

We appreciate every source , that provides a good analog signal to feed our PowerBoxes. This can be reel-to-reel tape machines, vinyl or very good DACs. We prefer, if the signal is kept with least interference/filtering/altering.

Of course, everything starts with the proper recording technique and equipment. We appreciate the outstanding work of labels like e.g. SoundLiaision, Soundkeeper Recordings, Outermarker records, Cohearent records, selected ones from EVO sound, and some older OnePoint recordings from DENON.
