ExtremeHiFi LLC ("ExtremeHiFi", "we", "us") runs extremehifi.com, a free reference site about hi-fi equipment: products, brands, dealers, reviews and second-hand listings found elsewhere on the web. This policy explains what information the site handles when you visit it, what we hold about the dealers and sellers it lists, who else is involved, and the choices you have. When you follow a link to a dealer, to eBay, to Amazon or to any other site, that site's own policy applies.
We do not sell products, take payments, run accounts or send newsletters from this site. Where the Meta pixel runs and how to switch it off is explained below.
Information you give us. The contact form asks for your name, email address and message. Webflow, which hosts the site, stores the submission and emails it to us. We use it to reply to you.
Server and security data. Like every website, ours receives your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time of each request. Cloudflare, which delivers the site, uses this to serve pages and to block abusive traffic, and holds the request logs for the period in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Traffic analytics without cookies. We measure how the site is used with Plausible and Cloudflare Web Analytics. Both count visits and pages without storing anything on your device.
Search. When you type in the site search, your query goes to Algolia, which hosts our search index. Algolia receives the query and the technical data your browser sends with it.
Google Analytics. The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how pages are used (_ga cookies). In the regions listed in the next section it runs in Google's consent mode with storage denied: it sets no cookies and no identifiers, sends anonymous pings, and Google estimates the rest. Google's description of the data it collects on partner sites is at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Session replay and advertising, in some places only. Outside the regions listed in the next section, the site may also load LogRocket (a recording of how a session unfolds, clicks, scrolling and page errors, used to find bugs; _lr_ cookies) and, when we advertise, the Meta pixel (so we can show ads for the site on Meta to people who have visited it; _fbp cookie). Where these run, LogRocket and Meta collect information about your visit over time and across other sites that use their tools, under their own policies.
Affiliate links. Product pages link to Amazon through the Amazon Associates program. Clicking such a link tells Amazon the visit came from us; Amazon's privacy policy applies from there.
Embedded media. Some pages embed YouTube videos through YouTube's privacy-enhanced player, which sets no cookies until you press play. Playing a video loads it from Google's servers, which then receive your IP address and may set Google's cookies.
LogRocket and the Meta pixel load only for visitors in the United States outside the states listed below, in Canada outside Quebec, in Australia and in New Zealand. For everyone else, including the European Union and European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Quebec, Brazil, Japan and South Korea, and visitors from the US states of California, Pennsylvania, Florida, Washington, Maryland, Arizona, Minnesota, Illinois, Connecticut, Montana, New Hampshire and Delaware, the site does not load them. Google Analytics runs with storage denied, as described above, for visitors in the European Union and European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Quebec, Brazil, South Korea and California, and normally elsewhere. We decide where you are from the country and region Cloudflare attaches to your request.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends either signal, the site treats you as a visitor from a protected region wherever you are: LogRocket and the pixel do not load and Google Analytics runs with storage denied. That is also how to opt out of the Meta pixel's advertising use in the places where it runs.
What is stored on your device, and by whom:
The first three items are strictly necessary or preferences you set yourself. You can delete or block any cookie in your browser's settings; blocking the Cloudflare cookies may stop the site from loading. Google's analytics opt-out add-on is at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout and Meta's ad preferences at https://www.facebook.com/adpreferences.
We use what we collect to serve the site, keep it secure, see which pages and searches are useful, fix bugs, answer your messages, and, in the allowed regions, show ads for ExtremeHiFi on Meta to people who have visited.
Where European or UK law applies, our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running, securing and improving a free reference site (server logs, cookieless analytics, search, the contact form, the dealer and seller listings described below). LogRocket and the Meta pixel would need your consent, which is why we do not run them for you at all rather than ask; Google Analytics runs for you only in consent mode, without cookies or identifiers.
The companies that process information for us, each under its own terms and privacy policy:
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect the site or its visitors, or in a sale or reorganisation of the business.
The site publishes information about hi-fi dealers (business name, address, phone, opening hours, website, brands carried and services offered) taken from the dealers' own websites, and second-hand listings (the listing's title, asking price, link, and the seller's public username or shop name as shown on the source site) found on third-party websites. Where a dealer or seller is a person trading under their own name, this is personal data we did not obtain from them, and this notice is how we inform them. We publish it in our legitimate interest in running a public reference, and it was already public at its source. A listing is removed when the source listing ends or on request; a dealer entry on request. If you are a dealer or seller and want your entry corrected or removed, email [email protected].
We keep contact-form messages until the correspondence is finished and we no longer need them for our records. Plausible and Cloudflare Web Analytics hold aggregated statistics. Each other provider above keeps its data for the period in its own policy. The database holds dealers while they trade and listings while they are live at their source.
ExtremeHiFi is in the United States. Where a provider above processes your information in the US, the transfer from the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland relies on that provider's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or its standard contractual clauses, as noted against each provider above.
If you are in the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland, you may ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its processing, or receive it in a portable form. You may complain to a supervisory authority: the EU authorities are listed at https://www.edpb.europa.eu/about-edpb/about-edpb/members_en, the UK's at https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/, Switzerland's at https://www.edoeb.admin.ch.
If you are in the United States, the Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals described above are how the site responds to a request not to be tracked, and the section on trackers says which third parties collect information across sites and where.
