What reviewers think

Magazine reviewers and YouTubers have tried this product—so we've summarized their strongest opinions below.

How useful are hifi reviews? We consider them useful for three things: (1) Surfacing new products you should demo in person at a dealer. (2) Learning which products reviewers unanimously praise as the best they've ever heard (this means they probably are legitimately great). (3) Identifying a product's unique attributes that satisfy your idiosyncratic needs and tastes. Beyond that, we  discount what reviewers say because they heap praise on everything—rarely being negative for fear of souring relationships with manufacturers. Further, they seldom have more than a couple products on-hand at once, relying on their imperfect memories to compare to past products.

Compared to their other products

QR Series

  • Positioning: The entry-level range, designed to offer high-quality sound at a more accessible price point.
  • Description: Uses an AMT tweeter with a gold-plated dispersion mesh, which provides a smooth and detailed high-frequency response, distinguishing it from the more advanced AMT tweeters used in the R Series. Additionally, features a compact design with a focus on delivering a balanced sound profile, making it ideal for smaller spaces compared to the larger and more powerful R Series.

R Series

  • Positioning: The high-end traditional tower offering, providing a step up in performance and technology from the QR Series.
  • Description: Uses advanced technologies like the Freedom Grounding Concept and SEC Air Motion Transformer, which enhance sound clarity and reduce distortion compared to the QR SE Series. This series also offers a modular upgrade path, allowing users to enhance their speakers over time, a feature not available in the QR Series.

Trapeze

  • Positioning: Represents Audiovector's high-end approach to a unique physical format—a revival of their 1979 classic "Trapeze."
  • Description: Features a unique wide-baffle design and proprietary drivers, offering exceptional clarity and dynamic range that surpasses both the QR and R Series. Its diffraction absorbing felt area around the treble and midrange drivers helps to create a rare and natural soundstage.

Manufacturer's notes

Using the same principles and parts as we use in our high-performance R series speakers, needless to say the R C centre speaker delivers on-point and is a fine choice for any home cinema system. The Audiovector philosophy for optimum sound delivery is founded on synergy. To achieve the ultimate balance for your home entertainment system, each speaker must work in harmony and balance with each other.
The R C model is available in three versions (Signature, Avantgarde and Arreté) which use increasingly complex concepts and technologies. The type of tweeter used is also one of the distinguishing points between the three versions, with the Arreté AMT tweeter being the finest and most sophisticated.

The Audiovector Freedom Grounding® system eliminates distortion and improves overtones, lowers the noise floor and increases image depth and focus. Audiovector Freedom is a new and revolutionary grounding technology, which addresses the movement induced distortion of and between the drive units in a loudspeaker. The currents running between the chassis are being processed and dealt with through a new separate crossover, which routes the signal to the ground terminal of your wall socket or your grounded mains distribution unit. Contrary to conventional knowledge, these currencies cause coloration and distortion between the drive units. By balancing and filtering these through a dedicated separate filter and by offering the possibility of connecting the speakers to earth/ground, we achieve a clean, very accurate, significantly more realistic sound with a low noise floor. Arreté models only.
  • Frequency response: 46-28 kHz (Signature), 44-53 kHz (Avantgarde), 42-53 kHz (Arreté)
  • Sensitivity: 91.5 dB
  • Impedance: 8 Ohms
  • Power handling: 275 W (Signature), 300 W (Avantgarde), 350 W (Arreté)
  • X-over frequencies: 3100 Hz (Signature), 3000 Hz (Avantgarde), 2900 Hz (Arreté)
  • Principle: 2-way
  • Bass system: Bass reflex
  • Bass/mid drivers: 6.5" Carbon
  • Treble driver: R Evotech (Signature), R AMT (Avantgarde), R AMT Arreté (Arreté)
  • Dimensions (HxWxD): 23.2 x 52.5 x 28.9 cm

Our take on the brand

Audiovector, a Danish speaker brand, stands out for the founder’s relentless rethinking of every component in their designs. Their use of unique materials, innovative technologies, and unconventional theories on sound results in speakers that genuinely sound distinct—especially in the R series. The flagship models in this series are known for creating exceptional soundstage depth, the kind you’d typically expect from dipole speakers, not cone-driver designs. Audiovector also focuses on minimizing harsh treble, ensuring smooth, fatigue-free vocals. Their speakers consistently receive high praise from reviewers and often win best-of-the-year awards.

Perlisten

With the success of the S7c, the request for the S5c center for slightly smaller rooms and screens became too numerous to ignore. A world class center similar to the S7c with nearly the same SPL, sensitivity, and low frequency output. The S5c is sealed for the best integration into any room, and the same exquisite DPC array, for THX certified Dominus surround, or Ultra LCR home theater applications.

Smaller sibling to our S7c. The S5c is designed for applications requiring somewhat smaller center channel. Featuring our proprietary DPC-Array controlling Mid/High frequencies, centered by our finest 28mm Beryllium dome and dual 28mm TPCD ultra-lightweight domes.

All transducers are developed ground up by our engineers – bringing decades of research, culminating in this world class design. We teamed up with companies in the USA and Sweden to bring modern material science to hi-fi. Utilizing advanced Comsol acoustic modeling, our DPC-array is the result of 18 months of painstaking simulations and prototyping. The result is one of the most technologically advanced loudspeakers available.

This new tweeter/waveguide DPC-Array delivers amazing accuracy, smoothness, and directivity control to handle the critical vocal range and delicate treble. All S-Series speakers share the same DPC-Array and benefit from our unique timbre matching technique across the entire series. Custom bass drivers made from thin-ply carbon diaphragms (TPCD) used here in a compact acoustic suspension enclosure for predictable low frequency performance ideally suited for multi-channel systems.

Product Strengths

  • The R5c center channel speaker allows dialog to be clear and intelligible amid layers of effects sounds
  • The R5c maintains performance and clarity even when listening decently off-axis

Product Considerations

  • Impedance drops rather low, so more quality power on tap to use with these speakers is better
  • Too much bass or upper bass was present

Comparisons (according to reviewers)

  • Vs Revel F228Be towers: Revels tended to make vocals and some instruments sound strangely "tall," whereas the Perlisten was far more of a point-source presentation with vocals and instruments being centered to the speaker

Takeaway: The R5c is great for listening to music or for home theaters. It ensures all voices can be heard clearly, even when there are a lot of other sounds.
