What's unique about the brand

Amphion is a Finnish hifi speaker brand that uses passive radiators instead of bass ports and places the crossover point at 1600 Hz (below critical hearing range) to achieve better phase coherence and driver integration. Their speakers, handmade in Finland, are particularly popular in professional studios due to their waveguide technology and electrically simple design that enhances resolution while creating a seamless soundstage.

What reviewers are saying

We read all the reviews. Here's what reviewers feel most strongly about:

  • Amphion loudspeakers employ a waveguide-loaded titanium tweeter combined with paper or aluminum mid-bass drivers for improved dispersion and driver integration, which creates a wider sweet spot and reduces unwanted room reflections.
  • The brand emphasizes a simple, uncomplicated crossover design at a low frequency (around 1600 Hz) to avoid the ear's most sensitive frequency range and create a more coherent point-source sound.
  • Many Amphion speaker models utilize a sealed cabinet with a rear-mounted passive radiator rather than a bass reflex port to deliver a more controlled, accurate, and less room-dependent bass response without port noise.
  • Amphion balances accuracy with musicality, resulting in monitors that are suitable for professional studio use and home listening by providing detail and clarity without harshness or fatigue, often at lower listening volumes.

Our favorite reviewer quotes:

  • "The 410's image really well, putting out a rather huge soundstage which makes you wonder how it's possible with that diminutive size of theirs. They are fast, very fast & just go RATATAT in a flash." (https://hifihunt.com/2018/09/17/amphion-helium-410-the-true-pretender)
  • "What really struck us about the Helium410 is the extreme clarity and detailed imaging they produce. Whether it's due to time and phase alignment, low distortion, driver speed, all we can say is that good recordings shine on the Helium410." (https://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/amphion-helium410-bookshelf-speakers)
  • "One25A bass is hugely extended in terms of bandwidth and massively powerful, but simultaneously very fast and dynamic, without the slightest hint of pitch uncertainty or resonant overhang. And it doesn't really seem to care about volume level; sensible or really quite loud, the One25A remains consistent and able to resolve and make audible the smallest low‑frequency detail." (https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/amphion-one25a)
  • "When listening to the Amphions, one cannot help but notice the superb phase-alignment and imaging qualities. The depth and naturalness to these monitors is not something that I've come across before, having had several of the usual high-end suspects in my room." (https://tapeop.com/reviews/gear/105/one15)
  • "There's soundstaging, and then there's Krypton3X soundstaging: depth and spaciousness to orchestras you feel you can walk around, and a stability and structural integrity to the music, however complex or layered, that just inspires confidence. If this is what a series crossover brings to the party, it's a neat trick." (https://hifiplus.com/articles/amphion-krypton3x-floorstanding-loudspeakers)

Our interview with the brand

What are two key technological innovations or strong opinions that differ you from other brands?

Air Motion Transformers

ADAM Audio has been refining Air Motion Transformer technology for more than 25 years, and we employ it in every tweeter we manufacture. This sustained focus has led to a series of innovations which trickle down to every series in our portfolio. We have an expert team in Berlin that hand-folds these tweeters, and they are subject to rigorous QA before they are fitted to the loudspeakers.

Industrial Design

ADAM Audio loudspeakers have a strong and unique design language that stems from Berlin and the design team here. Every choice centers around acoustic performance, but the beveled edges, bespoke waveguides, and rounded ports combine to form striking products. For decades, the loudspeakers have been the focal point of studios worldwide, and in recent years they have been catching eyes in home audio systems.

What's your approach to customer support?

Our Berlin-based customer support team handles hundreds of queries each month, ranging from pre-sales questions, troubleshooting and best practices, to repairs. They pride themselves on their response and success rate, and our customer feedback is overwhelmingly positive. ADAM Audio offers an industry-leading warranty of up to 5 years, and beyond that, our service team is always happy to repair products when possible. We have a wonderful dealer and distributor network who will always be happy to help if they can.
