What's unique about the brand

Ypsilon's amplifiers feature a unique hybrid approach that combines tube and solid-state technologies in a minimalist circuit design with only two gain stages, delivering the sonic purity of single-ended designs with the power of push-pull configurations.

What reviewers are saying

We read all the reviews. Here's what reviewers feel most strongly about:

  • A core tenet of Ypsilon's design approach is the utilization of custom-wound, in-house manufactured transformers for critical functions like signal attenuation, inter-stage coupling, and power supplies, allowing for precise control over the sonic characteristics.
  • Ypsilon often employs hybrid circuit topologies, blending tubes in input and driver stages with MOSFETs in the output stage, aiming to achieve a balance of sonic purity and power.
  • A distinguishing feature of Ypsilon preamplifiers is their transformer-based volume control, eschewing traditional resistor-based attenuators in favor of a custom-designed transformer attenuator with multiple taps for precise and transparent volume adjustment.

Our favorite reviewer quotes:

  • "SET 100 is an amplifier that produces music in its true natural scale, but above all it brings you as close as possible to the music event, to feel the music rather than hear it, to be touched and overwhelmed by the deeper feeling, with music emerging and not only sounding in a clear undistorted way." (http://www.audioreview.com/reviews/ypsilon-set-100-hybrid-monoblock-amplifiers-review)
  • "The dynamics and scale were simply stunning, and the width, depth, and vertical height were the most distinctive I have ever heard in my system. The Ypsilon created a truly big sound with a driving lifelike pace to the music." (https://www.dagogo.com/ypsilon-cdt-100-transport-dac-100-digital-system-review)
  • "The PST-100 Mk.II managed all of those things with a purity, delicacy, and verisimilitude that surpassed the performance of any preamplifier I've heard—and I've heard and owned some very good ones. When Heifetz plays spiccato (light, staccato bowing), each time his bow bounced off a string, the Ypsilon reproduced the character of that physical contact—its texture and tonality—with glistening transparency and physical dimensionality." (https://www.kosmasaudiovideo.gr/ypsilon-pst-100-mk-ii-line-preamplifier-stereophile)
  • "Whereas one always gives up certain aspects of sound for the others in every component choice he makes, for the first time, I can have extreme audiophile parameters fulfilled and yet not giving up that intangible and elusive living sound. The Ypsilon has shown me that music listening through a hifi audio system is not just about realism, it can also be about ravishing inside music itself." About the brand

VinylSavor stands out for its unique use of transformer coupling and transformer volume control in preamps, along with vacuum tube rectified high voltage supplies and low impedance circuits. The brand's equipment, personally built and tested by Thomas Mayer, is engineered with custom-made transformers and multiple chokes for excellent power supply performance, eliminating the need for expensive power conditioners or exotic cables.

Our interview with the brand

What are two key technological innovations or strong opinions that differ you from other brands?

Fully transformer coupled designs. The use of directly heated triodes not only as output tube but also as drive rand preamp tube. 600 Ohm LCR RIAA EQ in phono stages. Custom triodes for the Intrepid series (Thomas Mayer ONE, TWO and THREE). Possibility to customise each product to specific needs.

What's your approach to customer support?

I sell directly to end customers. I used to have very few resellers but due to the steep increase of production and material costs I exclusive do direct sales now to avoid price increases of the products which would otherwise be necessary. My goal is that every customer is happy and I am always available for any questions even years after the sale. When necessary I do repairs or assist in set up at the customer site.

What are your favorite tracks for showcasing the strength of your products?

I don’t have any favourite tracks, but use whatever I am in the mood for. Equipment should not be designed to work with specific music. People should use music they like for testing

What other products pair best with yours?

Admire Audio speakers.
