What's unique about the brand

Zanden Audio is renowned for achieving a natural, organic sound that closely resembles live performances through their use of Finemet core output transformers, which provide excellent electromagnetic noise suppression. The brand's distinctive approach includes vacuum tubes and LCR-based equalizers in their phonostages.

What reviewers are saying

We read all the reviews. Here's what reviewers feel most strongly about:

  • Zanden equipment stands out with its unique industrial design, using a mix of mirror-polished stainless steel, frosted acrylic, and brushed aluminum for a visually distinctive aesthetic.
  • Zanden has a longstanding expertise in analog playback, and products such as their phono stages offer a range of equalization curves beyond RIAA, aiming for accurate reproduction of a wide range of vinyl recordings.
  • Employing the practice of using output transformers, Zanden designs aim to minimize circuit complexity and deliver a pure, refined sound.
  • Despite employing tubes, Zanden gear is designed for low noise and high transparency, creating a sound described as neither overly "tubey" nor stereotypically solid-state, but rather emotionally involving and dynamically expressive.

Our favorite reviewer quotes:

  • "Indeed, the bass of the Zanden is truly superb—richly (and accurately) colored, three-dimensional, bloomy, clear-as-solid-state in pitch, near transistor-quick and powerful on transients, and immensely detailed in performance cues." (https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/zanden-audio-systems-ltd-classic-electronics)
  • "Indeed, the Zanden's bass performance as a whole seemed to be on par with some of the best solid-state amplifiers that I know, adding to this a tube magic on par with the best I've heard from Push-Pull tube amps." (https://www.hifi-advice.com/blog/amplifier-reviews/power-amplifier-reviews/zanden8120-3100-part1)
  • "As it was a demo unit, after barely a few moments in my system, the Zanden Audio 8120F produced a wondrous, pulsing momentum to its sound. Even more, it was expressively rhythmic and produced quick tonal shifts in emphasis so that the music had a remarkably sensuous quality that made the amp sound as though it were a powerful Class A triode rather than an A/B push-pull." (https://pt.audio/2024/08/18/zanden-audio-systems-8120f-stereo-amplifier-review)
  • "What sets the Zanden apart from all these things is the way it conjoins all these elements in an entirely effortless way. You almost fail to notice this cohesiveness until you play an LP through another phono stage and find the exercise sound punctuated and abstracted." About the brand

VinylSavor stands out for its unique use of transformer coupling and transformer volume control in preamps, along with vacuum tube rectified high voltage supplies and low impedance circuits. The brand's equipment, personally built and tested by Thomas Mayer, is engineered with custom-made transformers and multiple chokes for excellent power supply performance, eliminating the need for expensive power conditioners or exotic cables.

Our interview with the brand

What are two key technological innovations or strong opinions that differ you from other brands?

Fully transformer coupled designs. The use of directly heated triodes not only as output tube but also as drive rand preamp tube. 600 Ohm LCR RIAA EQ in phono stages. Custom triodes for the Intrepid series (Thomas Mayer ONE, TWO and THREE). Possibility to customise each product to specific needs.

What's your approach to customer support?

I sell directly to end customers. I used to have very few resellers but due to the steep increase of production and material costs I exclusive do direct sales now to avoid price increases of the products which would otherwise be necessary. My goal is that every customer is happy and I am always available for any questions even years after the sale. When necessary I do repairs or assist in set up at the customer site.

What are your favorite tracks for showcasing the strength of your products?

I don’t have any favourite tracks, but use whatever I am in the mood for. Equipment should not be designed to work with specific music. People should use music they like for testing

What other products pair best with yours?

Admire Audio speakers.
