  • The speaker is large, which may obscure the ability to see all the screens clearly
  • Without calibration, may sound bass/low mid heavy, or mid-forward

Comparisons (according to reviewers)

  • 8361A is a warmer, weightier—almost supercharged—version of the Genelec 8351B with extra SPL and LF extension
  • The 8361A is a direct successor to the Genelec 8260A, with a complete coaxial principle

Takeaway: The Genelec 8361A is a high-tech active monitor, delivering stunning clarity, control, and resolution. Its sound quality and adaptability, especially when paired with GLM, make it a worthwhile investment for professional audio environments.

What are hifi reviews useful for? (1) Identifying products you should demo in person at a dealer. (2) Learning which products reviewers unanimously praise as the best they've heard (this means they probably are legitimately great). (3) Identifying a product's attributes that satisfy your idiosyncratic needs and tastes. Beyond that, we often discount what reviewers say because they heap praise on most products—and are often apprehensive about publishing strong criticism or comparisons between products. Further, they seldom have more than a few products on-hand, often relying on their memories to compare past products. Always listen for yourself.

Product Strengths

  • Extremely clear sound, making them better for mixing and mastering than many other monitors
  • Sound like main monitors, offering a large sound footprint not typically found in near-field or mid-field monitors
  • Wide bandwidth accuracy and dependability at any volume level
  • Midrange performance is particularly notable for realistic, unhyped accuracy, especially on naturally recorded human voices
  • Bass performance combines extended bandwidth with great dynamic, pitch, and temporal accuracy

Product Considerations

  • Require a significant break-in period
  • To get the most out of them, an interface that can connect via AES is needed, as the conversion when using analog is not as transparent
  • Correct placement is crucial; at least four and a half feet of distance is needed between the listener and the monitor to be able to get all of the sound that it's trying to give
  • SoundAlign software, while useful for EQ adjustments, may introduce unwanted digital artifacts to the sound
  • Expensive, these monitors are at the higher end of this sector and share that space with some well-respected designs

Comparisons (according to reviewers)

  • Vs ATC SCM25a: The reviewer finds an absence of 'not hearing the box' evident in the 6-2 compared to the ATCs
  • Vs Neumann KH310s: The 6-2s outperform them in every respect, sounding much better, with other monitors sounding colored by comparison
  • Vs ATC 150s: The reviewer prefers these PMC6-2s over the ATC 150s

Takeaway: The PMC6-2 is a high-performance studio monitor that delivers exceptional clarity and detail. For those seeking accurate and dependable sound at all volumes, these monitors are worth consideration.

The PMC6 is packed with innovation and providing the same sonic signature as our renowned larger monitors, it's ideal for smaller control rooms or for use in larger immersive systems, where its astounding resolution allows critical mix decisions to be made with absolute confidence.

With 20mm of excursion, the bespoke 6-inch bass driver is designed specifically to integrate with our latest ATL™ bass-loading and Laminair™ airflow technologies. The combination outperforms most 8-inch monitors, offering unparalleled bass extension, headroom, dynamics, and low distortion at all levels.

The high end is courtesy of a one-inch precision-built fabric soft-dome tweeter, with a shallow waveguide that creates wide, tonally consistent dispersion and rock-solid imaging. Both the bass and treble drivers are precisely and individually controlled by a pair of 200W ultra-low-distortion, high-damping-factor Class-D amplifiers.

Whether in portrait or landscape placement, the PMC6's sophisticated DSP engine automatically adjusts the crossover, ensuring optimum tonal accuracy, phase and imaging. The monitor can be calibrated using the rear-panel controls or with PMC's intuitive browser-accessible SoundAlign™ software.

The PMC6 can be upgraded by adding a PMC8 SUB to create a full-range, free-standing PMC6 XBD system. Activating the 'XBD' DSP mode ensures the perfect marriage of the two units, creating a clean LF extension down to 25Hz.

"Active 2-way nearfield reference monitor with ATL™ bass loading Frequency response: 39Hz - 25kHz (- 3dB @1m full space, on-axis) Max. cont. A25-M

Reviews

A brand new and innovative midrange driver entirely developed and manufactured in-house brings the A25-M even closer to absolute perfection. Imagine hearing sound as naturally as in real life. The speakers disappear, you trust what you hear and let your ears work with total confidence. That's what you get with the A25-M!

Our Extended Dome Driver (EXD) keeps the advantages of both dome and cone construction types while eliminating the disadvantages. When applied to the midrange, dome drivers tend to become either unstable in the middle of the dome, or too heavy due to more rigid material being used, and they can only ever offer a very limited bandwidth in the low end. Cone drivers, on the other hand, pose a relatively large weight in their composition of membrane, dust cap, spider and suspension, which limits SPL and can cause distortion. They also restrict airflow with heavy basket designs. Even the dust cap can add distortion to the reproduction.

Our EXD midrange driver developed for the A25-M, however, combines a 4-inch, latex-and-graphite-infused paper cone membrane with a light polypropylene dome, both of which are directly connected to the voice coil. With the dimensions and weight ratio of coil and membranes optimised in this way, our EXD offers higher SPL at lower distortion, pushing the new A25-M even closer towards perfect accuracy. To further improve its performance, the new driver is built directly onto the rotatable baffle with no basket at all.

The A25-M is PSI Audio's flagship loudspeaker. It is a mid-field to main reference monitor with staggering precision and amazing stereo image. The dynamic behaviour, precision frequency and phase responses have made of the A25-M a true reference in the entire industry.

PSI Audio is a Swiss hifi brand that builds all their speakers and acoustic devices without using DSP, focusing instead on pure analog technology to deliver accurate sound reproduction. Their standout product is the AVAA C20, a revolutionary active bass trap that eliminates low-frequency noise by creating a "black hole" effect for resonant frequencies, requiring much less space than traditional acoustic treatments while being effective across diverse environments from recording studios to subway stations.

Expand Details

Product Strengths

  • All three of the A25 speaker drivers are designed and handmade in-house in Switzerland to ensure low distortion, high precision, and the finest quality control
  • Every A25 is sonically identical, meaning any two of the same model at any point in their production history will be a matched pair
  • The A25M offers higher SPL at lower distortion
  • Initial listening tests were very favorable, and the first things that stood out were the tight and controlled low end and super precise stereo imaging, leading to a huge sense of depth and space
  • Mixes translated incredibly well to other systems, and when using them for mastering, the bass end was spot on, and the highs were incredibly detailed but not at all hyped or fatiguing

Product Considerations

  • The A25Ms are very heavy, at 28.4kg each, and have the kind of proportions that make a one-person lift of such a weight risky
  • The size and weight of the A25Ms mean they probably will not be considered for nearfield duties by the majority of potential users
  • The overall tonal balance is a little prominent in the upper-mid band, and this sometimes adds a slight edge to some mix elements
  • If considering a move to mid-field monitoring, room acoustics should probably be considered at the same time
  • Enclosure color is an acquired taste

Comparisons (according to reviewers)

  • Vs ATC SCM45s, the ATCs just had that extra tiny level of detail in the mids—it comes down to personal choice

Takeaway: The A25M is genuinely revealing monitors that can provide great insight into the components of a mix and how they fit together. These are spectacular monitors with a tight, controlled low end and super precise stereo imaging, making them an excellent mid-field monitor for mixing and mastering.

  • Precise and detailed high end that is clean and dimensional
  • Highly dimensional, reach-out-and-touch-it midrange representation
  • Full, firm, and punchy low end
  • Tonal consistency is good no matter where you are in the room

Product Considerations

  • Exceptional and crystal clear stereo image
  • Amazing dynamic levels, wide frequency response, easy positioning, and stunning dispersion from a compact enclosure

Product Considerations

  • The white finish gets grubby easily
  • Not the loudest—they are certainly loud enough to work on, but will overload if pushed too hard
  • Bass can be inaccurate
  • At medium levels the overall sound lacks detail and energy, if pushed to high levels, frankly it falls apart
  • The review unit did not seem to have the auto standby control operational

Takeaway: The A215-M is worth considering because it has a good sound from a compact enclosure with crystal clear stereo imaging. It would be a solid addition to your studio if you buy one.
