What's unique about the brand

MonAcoustic is a hifi speaker brand that uses isobaric designs and aluminum cabinets to achieve deeper bass from smaller enclosures, setting them apart from traditional wooden speakers. Their PlatiMon VC One speakers feature a unique virtual coaxial design with asymmetrical resonance-attenuation liners and twin rear ports specifically tailored for left and right channels, enhancing stereo imaging.

What reviewers are saying

We read all the reviews. Here's what reviewers feel most strongly about:

  • MonAcoustic speakers feature enclosures crafted from high-grade 6061 aluminum, contributing to a transparent and modern sound signature.
  • They incorporate an Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter, often modified in-house, for clear and detailed high-frequency reproduction.
  • The brand's founder emphasizes achieving a precise sonic signature through careful control of attack, sustain, and release times.

Our favorite reviewer quotes:

  • "If your post-unpack experience mirrors mine, you then go supersonic on ultra-specific soundstaging. Where PlatiMon went the literal extra inches was how specifically it teased out very closely spaced events as occurring in two separate locations rather than sum-clumping them into one." (https://darko.audio/2023/07/monacoustic-platimon-vc-one-review)
  • "Suffice to say that PlatiMon aced such 3D mapping of individual sounds popping up clustered but locally individuated with uncommon alacrity. In my book, it's probably the chief attraction on the VC One's scenic tour of aural victories." (https://darko.audio/2023/07/monacoustic-platimon-vc-one-review)
  • "The MonAcoustic SuperMon Mini took a complete different road by providing an incredible amount of detail to go with that superb imaging and soundstaging. With the Minis, I could hear deep into the recordings, which seemed somehow appropriate while dwelling in the hifi rig space." (https://pt.audio/2023/11/09/monacoustic-supermon-mini-loudspeakers-review)
  • "Again, the Platimons have an ESL-like transparency with a massive sound extending well beyond the speaker boundaries. Listening to David Sylvian's spacy Gone to Earth and Thomas Dolby's The Flat Earth feels more like going for a swim than merely listening to music." SuperMon Mini 2024:

  • Positioning: The entry-level high-performance bookshelf speaker in the Mon Acoustic lineup.
  • Description: Offers a compact design with a big impact, featuring a 2.5-way isobaric configuration that enhances sound precision. Unlike the larger SuperMon Isobaric, it is ideal for small rooms or those seeking portability without sacrificing sound quality. PlatiMon VC One:

  • Positioning: A mid-range bookshelf speaker designed for audiophiles seeking a balance between performance and size.
  • Description: Features a virtual coaxial design, offering a wide frequency range from 45 Hz to 28K Hz. It uses a high-performance AMT tweeter and a unique sonic pressure measurement system, providing a soundstage depth unexpected from its size. Compared to the SuperMon Mini, it offers a more expansive soundstage.

PlatiMon Virtual Coaxial Two:

  • Positioning: A premium floor-standing speaker that builds upon the technology of the VC One, offering enhanced audio capabilities.
  • Description: Features an 8-inch woofer and dual sound profiles, providing a profound bass depth and versatile soundstage. It surpasses the VC One by offering a full range of frequencies from 20Hz to 40,000Hz.

SuperMon Isobaric:

  • Positioning: The flagship model, representing the pinnacle of Mon Acoustic's engineering and sound quality.
  • Description: Offers groundbreaking engineering with its 2.5-way isobaric design and high-quality components like the SEAS Exotic T35 tweeter. It provides a natural sound with minimal distortion, making it the ultimate choice for audiophiles seeking the best in luxury audio. Compared to other models, it offers the most sophisticated sound quality and is best suited for those with a high budget tolerance and a desire for a concert hall experience at home.

About the brand

Vivid Audio's loudspeakers feature unique, nature-inspired shapes and glass-reinforced composite materials that minimize cabinet resonances and diffraction. Their proprietary Tapered Tube Loading technology and drivers made from the same alloy (developed by former B&W Nautilus designer Laurence Dickie) work together to deliver uncolored sound that makes the speakers seem to disappear in the room.

Our interview with the brand

What are two key technological innovations or strong opinions that differ you from other brands?

Unlike the vast majority of our competitors, who simply use others' active components, we have, from inception, March 2001, designed and manufactured our very own bespoke, proprietary drive units. The resultant filter networks are ridiculously simple. By controlling the whole process, we are able to derive the exact response from each in it's system. A little appreciated advange too, is we are able to provide spare parts for an extended period.

Any vibrating device will impart that vibration to the substrate to which it is fixed. At Vivid Audio at no time do we couple drive units to the cabinet directly, each is decoupled by a carefully selected soft, 30 shore silicone, memory free O ring. In the case of bass units, we go one step futher - in addition to the decoupling O ring, each driver is apposed by another identical bass unit in a reaction cancelling configuration. Expensive, resulting in an inert cabinet. Note the lack of visible fixing harware.

A perfect acoustic solution.

(No matter how heavy you make a loudspeaker cabinet, all one is doing is shifting the damped resonances in band. Place your ear against any loudspeaker to appreciate this. The worst case example is the ubiquitous eccentricly loaded sub woofer.)

We strive for as lower mass as possible in an extremely stiff configuration. The lower the mass, the lower the energy strorage. The same requirement as aircraft, race cars etc. There are many other unique technologies we employ, jointly presenting the cleanest window into the music. Our web page details these.

It would be foolhardy of me to send you a short list - by definition would exclude many excellent brands of which we have no knowledge. Suffice to say: Unusually, we expend an exorbitant effort in perfecting the loudspeaker / room interface, no sharp perturbations, corners, discontinuities, etc., and the loudspeaker / amplifier interface, ensuring at the minimum impedance, the current and voltage waveforms are close to being in phase - an ideal situation. Our loudspeakers present an easy load to the amplifier. Quality rather than quantity is emphasized.
