What's unique about the brand

QLN is a hifi speaker brand known for its unique Qboard cabinet technology that minimizes resonances and enhances sound clarity, with their speakers featuring deep, non-parallel cabinet designs to reduce standing waves. Their speakers, found in both home and studio environments, use custom-developed drivers and proprietary Kevlar midrange and carbon sandwich cone woofers to deliver refined sound with exceptional midrange clarity.

What reviewers are saying

We read all the reviews. Here's what reviewers feel most strongly about:

  • Qln speakers are voiced for a natural, organic sound that prioritizes a coherent and seamless presentation across the frequency range, offering an inviting listening experience.
  • The brand employs its proprietary Qboard technology, utilizing a viscoelastic-damped sandwich construction, to minimize cabinet resonances and provide a quieter, less colored background for the music.
  • Qln's speaker designs feature time-aligned driver configurations, often using a slanted baffle, to improve phase coherence and create a more focused and immersive soundstage.

Our favorite reviewer quotes:

  • "I heard a planar or electrostatic type of cohesiveness and a lack of coloration but with a cone driver type of authority and sense of dynamic contrasts. Music seemed to issue forth off of a totally colorless canvas with no apparent obstacles between me and the recording." (https://pt.audio/2020/05/15/qln-prestige-three-loudspeaker-review)
  • "The Qln Prestige Five hang music in the air in a wonderfully fulfilling way, in a manner that allows the thoughts of the day to evaporate replaced by a living, breathing cloud of sound floating in space as if it was being created by a holographic projector, all life-like rich and dimensional. The Prestige Five also offer up a full bodied and richly textured music image, walking that fine line between resolution and tone like an old pro who knows that too much in one direction or the other can shatter the allure and illusion." (https://twitteringmachines.com/review-qln-prestige-five-loudspeakers)
  • "They have infectious rhythmic capabilities and a pure, open, communicative and direct and decidedly non-filtered and non-electronic sound. Even though the midrange does not come across as being ruler-flat, the speakers manage to create an acoustic that feels highly natural." (https://www.hifi-advice.com/blog/review/loudspeaker-reviews/loudspeakers-passive-reviews/prestige-one)
  • "Every pair of Qln speakers I've heard offer some of the smoothest and perfectly saturated sound I've experienced but the Reference 9s add a refined richness, greater reach, and a more physically involving sound that acts like an open-armed invitation to losing one's way in music. And Wild God is a record you want to dive into all the way without any strings of past favorites, and for me Nick Cave offers a rich mine, attached." (https://twitteringmachines.com/review-qln-reference-9-loudspeakers)
  • "Scale, some brute force, and the ability to remain calm and resolving through even the heaviest squalls are all required traits for the hifi in charge of delivering all of Romance's largess and the Qln Reference 9s, now driven by the very capable Octave Audio V 70 Integrated Amplifier and its very hearty 50 Watts of output power (into 4 Ohms), projected a stadium-sized and highly refined sound image in Barn. The Qln's, whether driven by the Vinnie Rossi BRAMA or Octave V 70, offered full range sound with deep hefty well defined and formed bass and a kind of rich silkiness all the way up to the highest strings and things adding up to some of the most inviting sound I've had here in Barn." About the brand

Vivid Audio's loudspeakers feature unique, nature-inspired shapes and glass-reinforced composite materials that minimize cabinet resonances and diffraction. Their proprietary Tapered Tube Loading technology and drivers made from the same alloy (developed by former B&W Nautilus designer Laurence Dickie) work together to deliver uncolored sound that makes the speakers seem to disappear in the room.

Our interview with the brand

What are two key technological innovations or strong opinions that differ you from other brands?

Unlike the vast majority of our competitors, who simply use others' active components, we have, from inception, March 2001, designed and manufactured our very own bespoke, proprietary drive units. The resultant filter networks are ridiculously simple. By controlling the whole process, we are able to derive the exact response from each in it's system. A little appreciated advange too, is we are able to provide spare parts for an extended period.

Any vibrating device will impart that vibration to the substrate to which it is fixed. At Vivid Audio at no time do we couple drive units to the cabinet directly, each is decoupled by a carefully selected soft, 30 shore silicone, memory free O ring. In the case of bass units, we go one step futher - in addition to the decoupling O ring, each driver is apposed by another identical bass unit in a reaction cancelling configuration. Expensive, resulting in an inert cabinet. Note the lack of visible fixing harware.

A perfect acoustic solution.

(No matter how heavy you make a loudspeaker cabinet, all one is doing is shifting the damped resonances in band. Place your ear against any loudspeaker to appreciate this. The worst case example is the ubiquitous eccentricly loaded sub woofer.)

We strive for as lower mass as possible in an extremely stiff configuration. The lower the mass, the lower the energy strorage. The same requirement as aircraft, race cars etc. There are many other unique technologies we employ, jointly presenting the cleanest window into the music. Our web page details these.

What's your approach to customer support?

What are your favorite tracks for showcasing the strength of your products?

What other products pair best with yours?

It would be foolhardy of me to send you a short list - by definition would exclude many excellent brands of which we have no knowledge. Suffice to say: Unusually, we expend an exorbitant effort in perfecting the loudspeaker / room interface, no sharp perturbations, corners, discontinuities, etc., and the loudspeaker / amplifier interface, ensuring at the minimum impedance, the current and voltage waveforms are close to being in phase - an ideal situation. Our loudspeakers present an easy load to the amplifier. Quality rather than quantity is emphasized.
