What's unique about the brand

Vandersteen Audio is distinguished by its time and phase coherence in speaker design, where all drivers move in unison through their first-order crossover design and Perfect-Piston drivers made of carbon-fiber and balsa wood. The brand's speakers feature a minimum baffle approach to reduce reflections, while focusing on high-quality internal components over elaborate cabinet designs, with models like the Seven XTRM offering precise bass response customization through adjustable trim pots.

What reviewers are saying

We read all the reviews. Here's what reviewers feel most strongly about:

  • Vandersteen designs emphasize time and phase coherence through the use of first-order crossovers, which require drivers with exceptional linearity and bandwidth.
  • They are known for their "form-follows-function" aesthetic, prioritizing sound quality over visual flash, often resulting in understated designs.
  • Vandersteen loudspeakers often include user-adjustable controls, such as midrange and tweeter level adjustments or multi-band bass equalization, to optimize performance in different listening environments.
  • They prioritize seamless driver integration, aiming to present a cohesive sonic presentation, rather than drawing attention to individual drivers.

Our favorite reviewer quotes:

  • "The magic of perfect driver integration unclogs the midbass and midrange, achieving performance that is scintillating in the natural feel it has. The baja sexto, a huge bass-guitar-like instrument, on Trampoline is delineated with just the right heft, texture, tone and presence." (http://www.soundstagenetwork.com/revequip/vandersteen3asignature.htm)
  • "The Treo has such an expressively wide color palette and fine resolution of timbral contrasts that it almost seemed constrained within the musically narrow confines of a typical, studio-sired rock production. In fact, the more musical complexity I threw at the Treo CT, the happier it seemed to be." (https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/vandersteen-audio-treo-ct-loudspeaker)
  • "The individual sonic performance of VCC-2 is simply amazing. It delivers punchy, accurate, and textured bass, detailed and clear mids, and extended and smooth treble." (https://www.audioreputation.com/vandersteen-vcc-2)
  • "The most enlightening note for me while listening to the Vandersteen Kento was the single stomp of a kick drum that I heard from an unfamiliar recording. The attack and subsequent decay was amazing." (https://pt.audio/2021/01/31/vandersteen-kento-carbon-loudspeakers-at-ultra-fidelis-first-listen)
  • "The Quatros are also as open and airy as all get out with a soundstage as wide as the room (hell, the room fills with music as never before, though I know for a fact that the Atmosphere and such from Synergistic Research helps dramatically in this area). This way cool." (https://positive-feedback.com/audio-discourse/vandersteen-audio-quatro-wood-ct-loudspeakers)

About the brand

Sonner Audio's speakers use a distinctive curvilinear monocoque structure with a leather front baffle, designed to reduce internal standing waves and release sound energy quickly without distortion. Their time-aligned cabinet design and flat impedance crossover allow the speakers to work well with lower-powered amplifiers while creating an enormous soundstage that seems larger than their physical size would suggest.

About the brand

PIEGA is a hifi speaker brand that uses aluminum cabinets and Air Motion Transformer tweeters to achieve better sound quality than traditional speaker designs. The brand is known for making compact speakers that perform like much larger ones, with their TMicro 40 model reaching deep bass notes down to 50Hz despite its small size.

Our interview with the brand

What are two key technological innovations or strong opinions that differ you from other brands?

Our ribbon tweeters, especially the coaxial versions used in our Coax and Master Line models, deliver exceptional resolution and spatial imaging. What’s particularly noteworthy is that we have been developing these tweeters entirely in-house for over 40 years – and we still manufacture them by hand at our facility in Horgen, Switzerland. The quality is, in our view, outstanding – not only acoustically, but also in terms of technical precision and minimal unit-to-unit variance.

Our aluminum enclosures, combined with internal damping and sandwich construction, ensure distortion-free performance – even at high volumes – and are a unique feature both acoustically and visually.

What's your approach to customer support?

We generally recommend that customers first reach out to their dealer or national distributor for any questions or issues. These partners are trained and authorized to assist quickly and effectively. In more complex cases – or when customers contact us directly – we are, of course, committed to providing personal and dedicated support.

Additionally, we regularly invite customers to visit our headquarters in Horgen. During these visits – which include a tour of our production and personal consultation – very close relationships have developed, and in some cases, even real friendships have formed. We take pride in maintaining close and reliable contact, even after the purchase.

What are your favorite tracks for showcasing the strength of your products?

  • “Queen Mary” – Francine Thirteen: For dynamics and tight bass, excellent at high volume.
  • “Liberty” – Anette Askvik: For atmospheric depth and spaciousness.
  • “The Headless Horseman” – Bobby Bass: Great for vocals and evaluating seamless transitions between multi-way drivers.

What other products pair best with yours?

We experience excellent synergy with HiFi Rose electronics – both sonically and aesthetically. Setups with T+A or Cambridge Audio also pair beautifully with our speakers. And of course, there are no limits at the high end: just recently, I heard a large Burmester and McIntosh system driving our Coax 811 at a dealer – the result was absolutely stunning.
