TAD, short for Technical Audio Devices, is a Japanese speaker maker with a background in professional audio engineering. Its central technology is the CST, or Coherent Source Transducer, which mounts the tweeter concentrically inside the midrange so both radiate from one point for coherent phase and stable imaging. TAD forms its beryllium diaphragms by vapor deposition. The Bi-Directional ADS port keeps port noise low and lets owners place models such as the TAD-E1TX closer to a wall, while the TAD-R1TX flagship suits large rooms.

TechDAS is a Japanese turntable maker founded by Hideaki Nishikawa, and the DAS in its name stands for Digital Analog Supremacy. Every Air Force turntable floats its platter on an air bearing to isolate it from vibration, while a vacuum system holds the record flat against the platter. The company says this brings analog noise levels close to those of digital audio. Some models take up to four tonearms. The Air Force V uses the same air bearing and vacuum hold-down as the flagship Air Force Zero, which heads our Most Expensive Turntables list.

Yamaha brings its instrument making to hifi, aiming for what it calls True Sound, with instruments and voices reproduced as they were meant to sound. The Japanese company was founded in 1887 and still makes pianos and other instruments. Many of its amplifiers and receivers keep phono stages next to modern features, and MusicCast links its components into a wireless multi-room system. The MusicCast Vinyl 500 turntable adds streaming for listening in other rooms. The HS8 heads our Best Studio Monitors for Listening to Music list, with the HS5 and HS7 right behind.
