What's unique about the brand

JansZen is a hifi brand that employs sealed-back monopole electrostatic panels rather than dipoles, enabling near-wall placement while achieving exceptionally low 500 Hz crossovers that maintain the critical 1-3 kHz range entirely within the electrostatics. The brand continues the heritage of Arthur A. Janszen, creator of the first practical electrostatic tweeter and KLH Nine, through distinctive features such as vertically split panels for controlled dispersion, tropicalized engineering designed for humid climates, and active models offering real-time switching between directive and omnidirectional sound.

Lineup comparison

We think it's helpful to understand how their products compare. To learn more about each, scroll to the section above to click through to individual product pages.

Carmelita Passive

  • Position: Entry-level bookshelf speaker designed for external amplification and compact setups.
  • Description: Features a single 7" x 8" electrostatic panel with a 500Hz crossover point that handles most of the frequency range, paired with a dynamic woofer for bass. Unlike the larger Valentina models which use dual electrostatic panels, the single panel design makes it more affordable while still delivering electrostatic clarity, though with less soundstage height and bass extension than the floorstanding models.

Carmelita Active

  • Position: All-in-one bookshelf system with built-in amplification and digital connectivity.
  • Description: Uses the same single electrostatic panel design as the passive version but adds built-in bi-amplification, DAC, and five inputs including digital options. This eliminates the need for external amplifiers and preamps that the passive version requires.

Valentina P8 Passive

  • Position: Mid-range floorstanding speaker offering enhanced performance over the Carmelita series.
  • Description: Features dual electrostatic panels arranged vertically with controlled dispersion, creating a taller soundstage than the single-panel Carmelita models. The dual 8" woofers positioned above and below the panels create better bass extension and impact compared to the Carmelita's single woofer configuration, while the sealed cabinet design makes placement easier than the dipole Aphrodite.

Valentina A8 Active

  • Position: High-end active floorstanding system with comprehensive digital integration.
  • Description: Shares the dual electrostatic panel design of the P8 but adds dual 500W amplifiers per speaker and extensive digital connectivity including WiFi and Bluetooth options. The built-in DSP optimization provides better bass control and dynamics than the passive P8, while the "Stereo Everywhere" option allows switching between controlled and omnidirectional dispersion patterns that the passive models cannot offer.

Aphrodite

  • Position: Flagship dipole panel speaker inspired by the legendary KLH Nine.
  • Description: Uses a unique 8" x 48" synthetic aperture line array electrostatic panel with five segments and time delays, creating wider dispersion than the Valentina's conventional dual panels. The six 8" ceramic woofers in an open baffle dipole configuration provide deeper bass extension to 40Hz compared to the sealed Valentina models, though the dipole design requires more careful room placement and positioning than the other models in the lineup.
