Thomas Tan reviewed hifi on his YouTube channel, Thomas & Stereo, before he started building it. When his first amplifier, the TS120, was nearly finished, he traveled from Montreal to the home of Jay of Jay's iyagi and spent the day listening with him, because his biggest fear was that the amp would sound too bright. Experienced engineers design the circuits, and Tan voices the amps by ear, largely by swapping capacitors until the sound is what he wants. His tube integrateds also let you choose how the tubes work. In class A mode the tubes stay in their cleanest operating range but give less power, and the other mode trades some of that for more watts. Alan Sircom of Hi-Fi+ heard the "wide, deep" soundstage of good tubes along with "control, grip, and authority in the bass" that reminded him of a fine solid-state amp. Galion suits listeners who want tube imaging with a firm low end.

Start by choosing your tube. The TS120 uses KT88s, and the TS34 uses EL34s. HiFi Huff preferred the TS34 because he loves the EL34's midrange, and he found its class A power plenty in his 13 by 18 foot room. The TS120 comes in a standard edition, which Galion says is a little warmer with punchier bass, and a Special Edition that is more neutral with a smoother midrange. On both amps a Sound knob selects tone controls, which Galion tuned to tame sibilance, or two bypass settings. Robert Schryer of PMA Magazine stopped hating tone controls after the TS34. Give a new amp time, since the TS34 manual suggests a 300-hour break-in. Both amps welcome tube rolling, and Terry Ellis of Pursuit Perfect System liked the TS120 SE best with Shuguang KT88-Z tubes. For more power, the solid-state TS A75 power amp is the step up. Jay and Terry London of Stereo Times both heard it at its best over XLR cables, and Jay calls it "the best V-shaped sound presentation I've heard in a long time."

Galion is a Canadian company based in Quebec. Tan has spoken French for almost 40 years, and he named the company Galion, the French word for galleon, because, he writes, life can be calm or rough like the sea, and music carries us through. The TS120 project began in 2021, when Tan asked Mr. Liu, a designer with more than 30 years of experience, what tube integrated he would build with no budget limit. To finish the Special Edition's voicing, Jupiter Condenser built Tan capacitors it had not yet brought to market. Fabien Tremblay designed its class A TS A20, built near Montreal. Tan says he made more than 100 trips to Tremblay's home over two years of voicing, then had Jupiter make a custom capacitor because the stock part sounded too lean and a larger one made the bass sluggish. Visitors to his room at the Montreal audio show guessed it at 150, 200 or 300 watts. Sircom calls the TS120 something of a YouTube "darling," and the range now includes the Navy tube preamp and Discovery monoblocks.
