WiiM is a hifi brand that makes streaming devices with high-end features at unusually low prices, including their WiiM Pro Plus with its premium AKM DAC that outperforms its price point. What reviewers are saying

We read all the reviews. Here's what reviewers feel most strongly about:

  • WiiM's product lineup delivers exceptional value by incorporating a comprehensive suite of modern features into affordable devices, challenging the traditional high cost of entry into hifi audio.
  • They prioritize user experience with their robust and actively updated WiiM Home app, which integrates numerous streaming services and offers extensive customization options, including EQ and presets.
  • WiiM devices are distinguished by their broad compatibility, seamlessly integrating with popular ecosystems such as AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast, Alexa, and Roon, allowing for flexible multi-room audio setups and voice control.
  • The brand offers bit-perfect digital outputs on its streamers, enabling enthusiasts to use their preferred external DACs and ensuring unaltered audio fidelity, setting them apart from many other streamers in their price category.

Our favorite reviewer quotes:

  • "Loading up Tidal Connect I started playing some familiar tracks and while I heard the character of the WiiM instantly I was almost not believing what I was hearing . The one word that kept popping up was "how"?" (https://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2024/07/19/the-wiim-ultra-review-unreal-hifi-value-for-real)
  • "When I say "rubbery" I mean the sound from the WiiM is thicker, more together (vs every instrument separated to the maximum) and not as holographic but I'll be damned if the WiiM wasn't musical as all get out ." (https://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2024/07/19/the-wiim-ultra-review-unreal-hifi-value-for-real)
  • "And it is especially the detail reproduction that impresses, and leaves an impression of a combination that is exceptionally well-played in relation to a modest amount that this combo after all amounts to. With a sum of around NOK 3,990,- (present boudle price) we are more than a couple of thousand NOK below the Buesound Node, and it is extra nice for WiiM/Topping that they surpass the sound from the predecessor Node 2i as a combo that gives greater insight into the music to my ears." (http://www.audiophile.no/en/articles-tests-reviews/item/3074-review-wiim-mini)
  • "What you're actually getting is a very nice DAC with excellent technical performance, even judged by the standards of high-end solutions. You're also getting a feature-packed streamer, one that supports more services in a single unit than most standalone streamers do, with great software to boot." WiiM Mini

  • Positioning: The entry-level product in the lineup, designed for budget-conscious users seeking basic streaming capabilities.
  • Description: Features a compact size and affordability, making it ideal for small spaces or portable setups. It features a bit-perfect output and supports high-resolution audio streaming via Wi-Fi, Airplay 2, and Bluetooth 5.2, which is a step up from basic Bluetooth-only devices. Compared to the WiiM Pro, it lacks advanced DAC capabilities and additional input options, making it more suitable for users with simpler audio needs and tighter budgets.

WiiM Pro

  • Positioning: Positioned as a mid-range option, offering enhanced streaming features for more demanding users.
  • Description: Stands out with its robust streaming capabilities and user-friendly app, making it a great choice for those looking to upgrade their existing audio systems with high-quality streaming. It includes a high-resolution DAC and supports both analog and digital inputs, providing more flexibility than the WiiM Mini. However, it doesn't offer the amplification power found in the WiiM Amp.

WiiM Amp

  • Positioning: Designed as an integrated streaming amplifier, catering to users who need both streaming and amplification in one device.
  • Description: Features powerful amplification and streaming capabilities, making it a versatile choice for home audio setups. It includes a Class D amplifier with 60 watts per channel, which is more powerful than the WiiM Pro's preamp capabilities, and includes an ESS Sabre DAC for high-quality audio conversion. However, it lacks the advanced streaming features and connectivity options of the WiiM Ultra.

WiiM Ultra

  • Positioning: The flagship model, offering the most advanced features and highest performance in the lineup.
  • Description: Features a high-end DAC and extensive connectivity options, making it perfect for audiophiles seeking top-tier streaming and audio quality. It includes an ESS ES9038 Q2M DAC, providing superior audio clarity and depth compared to the other models, and supports Wi-Fi 6 for faster and more reliable streaming. While it offers the best sound quality, it does not include built-in amplification like the WiiM Amp.

About the brand

Bluesound is one of the best entry-level amps if you're looking to dip your toes into hifi. Reviewers love it for what it offers at the price—solid dynamics and tight bass, which is exactly what you expect from good Class D. It’s the go-to pick for people new to hifi since it gives you about 75% of the high-end experience without needing a ton of power. It’s perfect for smaller setups where you want good sound without going all-in on expensive gear.

About the brand

SOtM is a hifi brand that develops its own ARM processor boards specifically for audio, avoiding the sound quality issues common in ready-made processors used by other manufacturers. Their products, including the sMS-200 network player and sPQ-100 phono preamp, stand out for their ultra-low noise technology and rare impedance-matching features, while maintaining a focused approach by eliminating unnecessary features.

Our interview with the brand

What are two key technological innovations or strong opinions that differ you from other brands?

First, we don’t just use advanced technologies like ultra-high-speed digital hardware, precision audio clocking, or noise filtering—we develop them ourselves with a deep understanding of how each element affects sound quality. For example, our proprietary power electronics for audio circuits and custom-designed oscillators play a critical role in delivering our distinctive sound.

Second, while many brands prioritize marketing, we invest heavily in R&D. This means our products may not always be the most widely advertised, but they are built on a solid foundation of innovation and long-term vision. Rather than making minor upgrades, we aim to create fundamentally better products with each release. That’s a philosophy that consistently earns us loyal users around the world.

What's your approach to customer support?

At SOtM, we take customer support seriously. Customers are encouraged to first contact their local dealer or distributor, as they are trained to handle most issues and can provide service in the customer’s native language. However, if further assistance is needed, customers are always welcome to reach out to us directly. When a customer experiences an issue, we aim to respond quickly, diagnose the problem accurately, and offer a solution that minimizes any disruption. We go above and beyond by offering firmware updates, personalized setup help, and sometimes even remote access support to ensure the best possible experience.

What are your favorite tracks for showcasing the strength of your products?

Some of our go-to pieces include:

  • Stravinsky – The Firebird Suite (Finale): Great for dynamics and layering.
  • Copland – Fanfare for the Common Man: Perfect for testing impact, timing, and space.
  • Mahler – Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection": A true challenge for any system, with massive scale and emotional intensity.

We also enjoy film scores for their emotional engagement and wide frequency content. Ultimately, we choose tracks that are musically moving and technically revealing—regardless of genre.

What other products pair best with yours?

Since we produce everything from digital sources to amplifiers and cables—essentially all components except speakers—we typically use speakers from brands like Focal and Magico in our reference systems. All other components in the system are SOtM products, allowing us to demonstrate the full potential of our technology in a fully optimized environment.

What's your approach to customer support?

We have a dedicated service and tech support team. Our sales reps are also trained on supporting the line.

We always encourage the dealer to be involved in the support process since many of the issues can be resolved at the dealer level. Having the dealer involved also provides an opportunity for them to learn how to resolve more common issues. We are also happy and available to assist end users who reach out to us directly.

The best course of action is to reach out to your dealer and alert them of an issue. If your dealer is unable to resolve the issue, they can reach out to their rep or our support team for assistance. If they do not have a dealer, our support team is available via email at [email protected]

Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm CST.

Our goal is to respond to support issues within 1 business day. If a product is deemed to be defective within the first 30 days of receiving the unit, we will usually offer to replace it.
