The S1 loudspeaker is a solid hardwood, hand-crafted 140 liter bass reflex design. Each pair is hand constructed from 100% kiln-dried hardwoods, in a variety of standard options or in a hardwood of your choosing. It is well braced, internally lined and damped to eliminate unwanted cabinet resonances, and port tuned to 24Hz for full, accurate bass response.
The cabinet is acoustically isolated from its base and the floor, with solid brass risers. The S1 minimally compensates for natural baffle diffraction, however it includes no additional internal components of any kind. No additional drivers are used, preserving perfect phase presentation throughout the frequency range.
Because no multi-way crossover circuitry is necessary, your music isn't needlessly filtered, degraded or attenuated. The S1 simply holds the driver perfectly still at ear level, showcasing its remarkable performance free of any coloration, or distortion.

The S1x sets a new standard for single-driver point source performance. Centered around our latest V4 Nova driver, every facet of our critically acclaimed S1 was revisited in the development of the S1x, with the goal of producing the finest single driver loudspeaker ever made.
Our Nova driver is unlike any other. With a redesigned steel geometry milled from ultra-low carbon steel, the field coil pole piece is made from permendur, offering the highest saturation flux density of any commercially available metal.
Deep cryogenic processing is a three day treatment in which the Nova voice coil wire is submerged in liquid nitrogen for 48 hours at -300°F. During this process, the wire metal is compressed, becomes more conductive, and its natural crystalline structure is restored. The result is clarity, detail and accuracy elevated to new, utterly breathtaking levels.
A new solid copper phase plug further lowers the inductance of the Nova, while delivering better thermal performance to the field coil motor. The solid hardwood cabinet lining and damping have likewise been improved, and all internal wiring upgraded.
The bases of the S1x are a new addition as well, comprised in the S1x of a high mass phenolic resin-based composite material. Finally, the efficiency of the new S1x has increased further to 95dB 1w/1M.
Our summary
Product Strengths
- The S1x loudspeaker, featuring the Nova field coil driver, produces high fidelity sound
- Varying the voltage allows the listener to tune the system to taste and to their gear by altering the speaker's Q parameters, which affects imaging, clarity, and tonality
Product Considerations
- The S1x loudspeaker is costly
Takeaway: The Songer Audio S1x loudspeaker provides a high-fidelity listening experience and the ability to adjust sound parameters to the listener's liking. It could be worth buying to experience aural excellence

Our take on the brand
Like the S1, the construction quality and materials of the S2 are without compromise. The front baffles are constructed of 1.7 inch thick solid hardwood. To further eliminate distortion and resonance, the field coil driver is "magnet mounted" via the electromagnet housing to a 2.5 inch thick hardwood and glass-filled nylon support. This allows it to be all but entirely suspended in space, where it cannot transfer vibration to the front baffle.
The field coil driver has been modified for this design, leveraging the acoustic transparency of the driver suspension. It incorporates a novel, rear-firing whizzer which contributes to superb overall tonal balance and energy. As simply another part of the point source driver, the rear whizzer does not suffer from multi-way phase or timing issues. That benefit translates into a wonderful sense of live musical performance, with outstanding imaging and soundstage depth.
Below 130Hz, the Type D field coil is assisted by an Acoustic Elegance LO15 woofer for extremely accurate overall bass response. It is "port constrained" in the front, and employs an open, folded baffle design in the back. These design features lower free resonance, increase efficiency, and reduce wave cancellations for rich overall bass performance. Dual binding posts offer the option to run bridged passively, or to bi-amp for large listening spaces.
Our summary
Product Strengths
- Plenty of deep, satisfying bass and detail, and could go quite loud, even with just 4.3 watts per channel
- One of the most beautiful speakers
- The construction quality and materials are without compromise
- Seamless from top to bottom, which shouldn't be a surprise for full range drivers
- The dispersion characteristics aren't that unusual, the speakers sounded superb from anywhere in the room
Product Considerations
- The distance from the front wall is important because it determines the wavelengths that are reinforced in the room, so experimentation is useful
- The reflectivity of the front wall surface behind the speaker is important
Takeaway: The Songer Audio S2 loudspeakers have great bass and detail and can play loudly, also they are beautiful speakers. The S2 is special because it sounds good everywhere in the room.

Our take on the brand
Product Strengths
- Each detail of the Signature has been carefully crafted and sees numerous updates over the standard 801, including crossover upgrades and a modified cabinet with a refined downward firing port
- The bass presentation on the 801 Signature was better across the board, it was tighter, a little more pronounced and forward, and definitely more defined
- Bass goes beyond just hitting the low notes, the woofers showcase some of the clearest, most audible detail and texture
- Vocalists and actors have better inflection, greater scale, and detail playing at low volumes
- When properly set up, the Signature is one of the most holographic windows to music experienced
- Speakers need power, the Arcam was impressive and even got the 801s to play loud, but the Macintosh MC312 made the Signature sound flow-like water
Product Considerations
- The Signature's impedance fluctuates wildly, ranging from a nominal 8 ohms and dipping lower than 3, so you need an amplifier that does more than just work
- Placement matters: if placed too close to the wall, the bass response became too pronounced and even boomy at times
- The Signature can come off as bright, and in extreme cases, it might be fatiguing to some
- Poor recordings won't get a free pass, there's bound to be a track or two that's going to leave your playlist rotation
Comparisons (according to reviewers)
- Compared to the Klipsch La Scala, both speakers excel at the recreation of space in true-to-life dynamics
- Compared to the Wharfedale Elysian 4, the Elysian doesn't play as deep, is richer in the mid-range, and nowhere near as extended up top, so it's not the Signature's equal
- Compared to the Wilson Audio Want Puppy, the two speakers are similar in size, driver complement, build and finish quality, price, and target market
- Compared to the SVS Titan, the Titans sound two-dimensional and fat, compared to the Signature's far more realistic and natural-sounding bass
- Compared to the KEF R11 Meta, the Signature's beefy presence makes for a far grander statement
Takeaway: The 801 Signature is a speaker that elevates the listening experience to another level because it is designed with incredible attention to detail. It will be an emotional and immersive experience to own these speakers.

- Sweeter-sounding tweeter that integrates more fluidly with the midrange without sacrificing detail
- Balanced and coherent presentation across the frequency range
- Sounds are reproduced with clarity, detail, and dynamic contrasts
- Impressive soundstage imaging with accurately-sized images, providing a wide, tall, and deep soundstage
Product Considerations
- High-quality amplification with plenty of power is required, designed for use with amplifiers of up to 1000W
- Due to its size and the power it requires, it needs to be placed in a large room
- The weight of over 100 kg per speaker can make placement difficult—requiring assistance for lifting and maneuvering, especially on non-smooth surfaces
- The grilles can be a tricky fit
Comparisons (according to reviewers)
- Vs 800 D3: Faster and tighter bass register with a sweeter-sounding tweeter and improved decoupling
- Vs 802 D4: More bass, the 802 D4 had better blend
