What's unique about the brand

Acoustic Energy is a hifi speaker brand known for its unique 3.5-way Corinium design that separates bass drivers from midrange and tweeter, creating sound similar to a standmount speaker with a bass module. Their speakers feature distinctive materials like coconut husk-paper blend drivers and carbon fiber domes, along with specialized cabinet designs using inert mass damping to reduce coloration and enhance clarity.

What reviewers are saying

We read all the reviews. Here's what reviewers feel most strongly about:

  • The brand's enclosures are designed with resonance suppression composite (RSC) materials and strategic bracing, minimizing unwanted cabinet vibrations and coloration.
  • They leverage carbon fiber, even in the tweeter, to create drivers that are exceptionally light, stiff and well-damped, resulting in improved transient response, clarity, and greater tonal coherence.
  • Acoustic Energy floorstanding speakers often incorporate a D'Appolito driver configuration, placing the tweeter between two midrange drivers to achieve optimized dispersion characteristics and a stable, homogeneous sound image.

Our favorite reviewer quotes:

  • "Throughout my listening, I was wowed by the AE1 Actives' speed, agility, and transparency. They created a vast soundstage, with incredibly precise location of aural images." (https://www.soundstagesimplifi.com/index.php/equipment-reviews/182-acoustic-energy-ae1-active-loudspeakers)
  • "At first I thought I had left my usual £3,700 monitors connected since I could not believe how authoritative the compact boxes sounded and how a large a sound they could generate, way beyond their physical size. They exhibited an immediate sense of openness with an effortless and cohesive sound." (https://the-ear.net/review-hardware/acoustic-energy-ae500-standmount-loudspeakers)
  • "When set up correctly the Coriniums have an immediacy and energy that makes music that much more exciting. The combination of speed, power handling and transparency to detail is intoxicating with a good piece of music and really engages the senses in a way that more laid back speakers cannot." (https://the-ear.net/review-hardware/acoustic-energy-unleashes-corinium)
  • "The AE320s rise to the occasion with ease and barely seem to break sweat, producing ground shaking levels of bass without compromising the clarity of every frenzied drumbeat, with impressive response and attack. Lesser boxes can render this complex recording a sonic mess and it is to the AE's credit that the juxtaposition of orthodox timing and chaotic drumbeats results in an experience that truly beguiles." Our interview with the brand

What are two key technological innovations or strong opinions that differ you from other brands?

We’re an English company that’s been around since the 80s. We were bought back by our own employees—so the company really is one big family now.

We’re often told we’re underappreciated—the bang for the buck is among the very best in the whole industry. Often we’ll have the best speakers anyone's heard before.

300 series is our value sweet spot. It performs so well for the price point. We’re also well-known for our great bookshelf speakers, which we started the company with.

Our speakers are very easy to run with a wide range of amplification. They feature lots of detail and dynamics, but they’re also very forgiving—sounds beautiful even with poorly recorded music.

We’re not out to create the brand new and crazy. Yes, we have our own drivers and cabinets, but our focus is to perfectly nail what we do at each price point.
