Our take on the brand

With our new A10 CLASSIC amplifier, our goal was to offer an audiophile integrated amplifier inspired by the famous X-i1100, praised for its musicality and liveliness. The A10 is fully integrated into the future and easy to use. While its classic design remains timeless, it combines an ECC81/12AT7 tube preamplifier with a 2x130W Class AB push-pull amplifier. In short, the best of both worlds!
Modernity is also displayed thanks to a microprocessor that manages all the functions called by the encoder wheel, a long or short press allows access to the menus. We can scroll through the inputs: 6 analog on RCA with a MM phono with three capacity settings (100, 200, 320 pf), a balanced line on XLR, 5 digital including 3 optical, an S / PDIF and an audio USB, plus a connector for an aptX XFTB01 or XFTB02 bluetooth receiver (optional). A USB-A socket accepts MP3 audio files from a portable player or USB stick.
Originality: two HDMI sockets, one for a DVD to benefit from the audio signal quality of the A10 and an HDMI ARC to connect a CEC protocol screen, can be activated in the system configuration menu. Here are also shown information about the system, the selection of speakers (A, B or A+B), the adjustment of loudness, bass, treble or by-pass, the automatic standby (or not) spread from 5 to 90 min.
The trigger In/Out input controls the switching on and off of the A10 remotely, or from it to another device connected by the minijacks. The A10 offers the possibility of connecting two subwoofers. A Pre-Out output allows you to connect an additional power amplifier. A fixed Rec Out output is intended for a recorder such as a cassette player, MD, or other. On the rear, the High Bias switch activates the Class A bias on the first watts of the power stage.
The A10 wins all the votes, even being able to outdo much more ambitious and expensive models. A great success in perspective!
Our Summary
Product Strengths
- Huge and refined sound that is exceptionally talented and flexible
- Well-made and easy to use, with a simple front panel design
- Delivers a good amount of power, able to drive speakers effectively, and has a large soundstage with excellent instrument separation
- Offers exceptional connectivity options, including a plethora of analog and digital inputs
Product Considerations
- Can sound a little gentle or 'soft', especially the phono stage, lacking some bite
- The valve window aesthetics may not appeal to everyone
- Lacks direct input selection, requiring cycling through options
- The remote control doesn't feel quite as premium as the amplifier itself
- Bluetooth connectivity requires a separate module
Comparisons (according to reviewers)
- Vs Advance Paris A12: The A12 sounds better, is more refined, silkier, sweeter, has more dynamics and seemingly more punch, is a little more spatial and 3D, and has more features
- Vs Electrocompaniet ECI-6DX2: The A12—the A10's slightly fancier brother—offers a somewhat larger soundstage and a more spatial presentation up top, while the Electrocompaniet has solidity of sound and is super refined
- Vs Geshelli Labs J2 AKM4499 version (DAC): The J2 DAC was better than the A10's internal DAC
- Vs Pro-Ject 2 box S2 (phono preamp): The Project phono preamp was a little bit better, with a bigger presentation and more oomph on the bottom end
Takeaway:
The A10 Classic is a versatile and powerful integrated amplifier that sounds great and has many connections to use with different audio sources. With its vintage design and VU meters, it also looks amazing, making it a cool addition to any sound setup.
