What's unique about the brand
Brand overview
Start with the Avyra 633 floorstander. Trevor Butler of The Ear said it would deserve a five-star review "even at three or four-times the price," and Kennedy found it "seemingly impossible to faze." It is a 4-ohm speaker, so choose an amplifier that is happy with that load. Aaron Jenkins of The Absolute Sound had no trouble with a Rogue tube amp once he switched it to the matching tap. He found the 633 works best in larger rooms and that its spikes noticeably tightened the bass. Morel suggests starting about 20 inches from the front wall and includes a foam plug for the port. The Avyra 622 is the stand-mount option, and Ed Homewood of Old Guy Hifi suggests giving it 18 inches or more behind it and adding a subwoofer for deeper bass. The Sopran series is the step up, and Drew Kalbach of The Absolute Sound said the Sopran 934 "sounded fantastic from the first second" he played it, before any fine placement.
Meir Mordechai founded Morel in Israel in 1975, and the name comes from Mordechai Electro-acoustics. Morel makes its own drivers, once at a plant in Ipswich, and also supplies them to other high-end brands. The Fat Lady, molded from fiberglass, epoxy resin and carbon fiber without a single straight line, reached North America in 2009. Neil Gader recalled that people were soon saying "It ain't over until the Fat Lady sings." The Sopran followed with the same core technology at about a third of the cost, and Gader heard "immediacy, laser focus, and stable dynamic energy" from it. For its 50th anniversary in 2025 Morel launched the Avyra range, named after the Hebrew word for ambiance, and it showed the new Sopran 634 at AXPONA that year. Morel says every product is assembled by hand and passes seven quality tests before it leaves.

Products overview
Every Morel speaker uses drivers the company designs and builds itself, and each is assembled by hand and passes seven quality tests. The Soundwall X-Base All Weather Series is the entry, an IP54 speaker built into the wall for humid or wet locations. The Avyra 633 adds a second 6 inch woofer, so it plays bigger and reaches 25 Hz in a living room. The Sopran 634 adds a separate 6 inch midrange, which frees the woofers for bass and gives voices their own driver.
- Start here. A first buyer with a small room and a tight budget wants the Soundspot SP-1, a coaxial speaker whose base rotates 180 degrees to aim at the seat.
- Sweet spot. The Avyra 622 gives a stereo listener an Acuflex soft dome tweeter and bass down to 35 Hz, a full two-way speaker for well under what the floor-standing Avyra 633 costs.
- All in. The Sopran 634 is priced far above everything else in the range, a separate top model rather than an extension of the one below, and its separate midrange lets two woofers handle bass while voices stay clear when played loud.
