What's unique about the brand

Omega Audio Concepts is an Italian maker of complete hifi systems, designed and handcrafted in Italy. Its research began with cables, and it now also makes power distribution units, CD players, loudspeakers and amplifiers. The company builds only integrated amplifiers, machined from solid aluminum blocks with the signal section physically separated from the power supply. Its stated goal is silence, pursued with pure silver conductors and simple solid shapes such as spheres and cylinders that limit vibration. Buyers can take a matched set, such as the Stream or DNA system, rather than separate parts.

Products overview

Every model is machined from solid aluminum billet with a patented crossover, so the cabinet adds little resonance of its own. Easy One is the entry, with the woofer in the inner wall, which suits small to medium rooms. M.U.S.A. is a step up, moving the crossover to a separate cabinet that isolates vibration, and its 90 dB sensitivity eases the load on your amplifier in medium to large rooms. Micro XL, the flagship, adds a fifth woofer placed away from walls so bass approximates a point source.

  • Start here. For a buyer fitting a first serious system into a small room, Easy One reaches down to 32 Hz in a 40 by 40 cm footprint.
  • Sweet spot. Essenziale Speaker suits a medium room where you want response down to 30 Hz and a Y-shaped front that lowers acoustic load, so the front drivers work with more control.
  • All in. Micro XL is a separate top model in the range, for a listener who wants the most coherent bass, since its fifth woofer sits away from walls with its own external crossover and the drivers are decoupled with elastomers.

About the brand

Grandinote is an Italian maker of amplifiers and loudspeakers. Its amplifiers use a design it calls Magnetosolid, which puts solid-state devices in circuits inspired by tube amplifiers, with output transformers that Grandinote designs and makes itself. The circuits run in Class A, direct coupled and without feedback. Each channel has its own power supply and power cord, which keeps the channels separate. Some Mach loudspeakers leave out the crossover, so the drivers connect directly to the amplifier, and several models use a Semi Resonant Tube (S.R.T.) design for deep, fast bass.

About the brand

Magico is an American loudspeaker maker, founded in 2004 to rethink how loudspeakers are designed and built. Its enclosures are made mostly of aluminum with complex internal bracing, and the flagship M9 uses a carbon fiber and aluminum honeycomb cabinet with a beryllium-diamond tweeter. Midrange drivers and woofers use graphene-enhanced Nano-Tec cones, and M Series technology carries down into the S Series and A Series. Reviewers point to a wide sweet spot. The A5 suits medium to large rooms, and the A3 is on our Best Floorstanding Speakers list.

About the brand

Wilson Audio is an American loudspeaker maker in Provo, Utah, founded in 1974. Its speakers are built around time alignment, with drivers on the larger models adjustable for the listening position, down to the microsecond on the Chronosonic XVX. Cabinets combine Wilson's own X-Material, S-Material and V-Material to control resonance, and the company makes AudioCapX capacitors in-house for its crossovers. Trained dealers set the speakers up in the owner's room using the Wilson Audio Setup Procedure. The SabrinaX is the entry floorstander for smaller rooms, and the WAMM Master Chronosonic is the flagship.

About the brand

FinkTeam is a German loudspeaker maker that grew out of Fink Audio-Consulting, which has designed speaker components and systems for other brands for over three decades. It began with a prototype that Ken Ishiwata asked to have finished, shown at the 2016 High End show in Munich. Drivers and crossovers are developed in-house with simulation and measurement, then tuned by ear, and the cabinets are handcrafted in Germany. The Borg is a living-room floorstander with a 10-inch mid/bass driver and an AMT tweeter, and the Kim is a more compact model for smaller rooms.

Our interview with the brand

What are two key technological innovations or strong opinions that differ you from other brands?

We are working hard to reduce the negative influence of cabinet vibrations, but without the sledgehammer method. We have our own drive unit development team and our own woodshop to make cabinets, operated by a master carpenter. We are basically an engineering team with a lot of measurement equipment, working for the big industry, making the FinkTeam speaker because we can  and because this is our passion.

What's your approach to customer support?

Customers can contact us or the distributor, so we can find the best way to sort out problems. As a small company, we don’t need complicated formal procedures.

What are your favorite tracks for showcasing the strength of your products?

That’s a difficult one, as some tracks are what we call "limit tracks“ to find the balance of the speakers. But we have a few we like:

Toto, I will remember, Beyoncé, Blackbird, Malia & Blank, Magnetic Lies, Brina Bromberg, elephants on ice skates, John Lee Hooker with Van Morrison, The Waterfront.

What other products pair best with yours?

We like electronic from Soulnote, Japan and tube electronics from CANOR in Slovakia. Internally, we also use SPL Pro equipment and MATRIX for streamers.

About the brand

EgglestonWorks is an American speaker maker that builds every model by hand at its factory in Memphis, Tennessee. Its flagship reference speaker was first engineered for Bob Ludwig's Gateway Mastering studio, and studios in several countries use its speakers. The designs use machined aluminum baffles, carbon fiber diaphragms and point-to-point wired crossovers. A physicist engineers each design, which is then tuned by ear. Every pair is finished to order, with custom colors available. The Nico EVOlution is a two-way stand-mount, and the Oso builds on the Emma Evolution with more bass.

About the brand

MBL is a German maker of omnidirectional Radialstrahler speakers and electronics. The company's story starts in Berlin in the mid-1970s, with a young electronics engineer named Meletzky wanting speakers that send sound in all directions, as instruments do in a concert hall. Radialstrahler drivers use petal-like segments that flex in a bending mode to radiate sound through 360 degrees, so listeners can move around the room. MBL makes its drivers in-house in Germany. The 126 suits small and medium rooms, and the 101 X-Treme MKII is the four-tower flagship for large spaces.
